[opensuse] Cannot install mplayer-1.0rc2 from packman due to libdirectfb-1.1.so.0
Just thought I'd let the list know that I cannot install Mplayer because no libdirectfb-1.1.so.0 resolvable. I checked and all I see is libdirectfb-1.2.so.0 .. I can try just installing and making a sym link to 1.2, but I hope this can be fixed at the root of the problem before the release. BTW This is 11.1 Beta 3, and Packman 11.1 repository. It's also surprising since beta3 hasn't been released yet. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Beta 3 has been released in factory. Thanks for your very useful response. Then please take this discussion to the factory list where it would be appropiate.

Well there certainly seems to be some bleed-over relevance to this list since the libdirectfb/packman/mplayer issue is the one that will cause zypper to be uninstalled if the user is unfortunate enough to choose the wrong solver option initially. I noticed that tonight with a fresh 11.0 x86_64 issue. Whatever the problem is there it has been there for the past 5-6 weeks and has caught a few on _this_ list off-guard. There are presently 2 packman issues that need to be worked for 11.0. The issue above and the other is lib-xine/xine-lib replacement. Where should these 11.0 issues be directed or addressed? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Here, but tested with the 11.0, not the beta. And I think you should ask the people at packman. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Already done. Sorry I wanted to inform some people that may be using it on the list. Next time i'll be sure not to try to help.. Ben -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It is not that. Please don't be so touchy :-) Sure that the info is interesting, but: - a user that wants to try factory (ie, an alpha or beta) should first read the factory list first, because there he will read about the already known problems and solutions, if any. - a user that has problems can post there, where not only other users will read it, but also the people from suse that are working with it and may know what to do. Those people often do not read this general list, and thus, your effort reporting a problem here is lost. - and a problem reported here can be irrelevant. Most things here (ie, in the stable distro) should work. They have been tested, we hope. If you report a problem here, we look at it from a different perspective: if you report a problem here with a beta, we just think: "what do you expect, it is the beta, it is expected to fail. We can not go searching for a solution when perhaps there is none". So better ask in factory where they will perhaps tell you: yes, we know. About the "yes, we know": read the previous posts on factory, go a month back. You will see that there are much bigger problems with the repository and dependencies that your problem. Yours is trivial :-p - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
