[S.u.S.E. Linux] Downloaded KDE beta 4, now what?
I just downloaded from SuSE's site KDE beta 4. I downloaded all the rpm files into /root/suse/kde and I am trying to use YasT to install them. I am trying to set the installation directory but yast keeps saying that it cannot find the installation directory. Is there some specific directory structure that yast is looking for? Some file that it needs in that directory? Thanks. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Avi Schwartz avi@bitsmart.com - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I had I a similar problem with some other packages. What I ended up doing is installing them with rpm like so: rpm -ivh package-name.rpm Luck, Mark - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Avi, I stumbled through this the first time. Perhaps you are doing what I did. I simply wasn't using YAST correctly. Try this if you haven't: 1) start yast. -> The following menu is displayed: /* General help for installation Adjustments of installation Choose/Install packages Update system System administration Show README file for installation media. Copyright Exit YaST */ 2) From this menu select "choose/install packages" -> The following menu is displayed: /*Load configuration Save configuration Change/create configuration Check dependencies of packages What if... Start installation Index of all series and packages Package information Install packages Delete packages Main menu */ 3) From this menu select "install packages" -> "Source(none)" should be highlighted. 4) Hit enter. -> A drop down box should appear with the following menu: /*Directory FTP Source medium Floppy */ -> "Directory" should be highlighted. 5) With "Directory" highlighted, hit enter. -> you should see a highlighted field with ":/" in it. 6) Hit enter and you will see the contents of you file system. 7) use your arrow keys to highlight the directory you want to change to. 8) Hit enter to change to that directory. 9) Once you get to the directory where your RPM's are, you will see them displayed with check boxes. e.g., [ ] 972.8K Apr 22 19:54 kdenetwork-beta4-1.i386.rpm
