[opensuse] Open Suse 10.3 64bit Hardware Compatibility "problem"
Hi all, I am running OpenSuse 10.3 64bit on a Intel Dual Core 1.6Ghz CPU and MainBoard Asus P5KPL-VM (Chipset Intel CH7) and a Silicon Image SiI 3512 Sata Raid Controller (Mirror), the scope of this server is to play File/Print/Fax Server Role and I need to use the console trough the serial interface. My problem is about Hardware: The Modem I am using has to be PCI (because the only com port available has to be used for console) and I have a Conexant modem with the Linuxant Drivers Installed. The whole server is working fine unless Hylafax tries to send a Fax. Sending a fax is causing a total freeze of the server at the end of the fax handshaking... So I tried to use a different (PCI) modem with a Motorola Chipset (SM56) but I wasn't able to find any driver to make this work. So, again, I re-installed OpenSuse 10.3 32bit and the Modem started working great... but the whole system began to be pretty unstable (there is some issue with IRQ's and similar stuff...) So, again and agan, I re-installed the 64bit version of OpenSuse 10.3 and the system is Rock-Solid but the modem problem is still there... So, I am writing here seeking help in one of those option: a. Someone who can help me to fix the Conexiant Modem in the 64bit OpenSuse b. Someone who can tell me where I can find a PCI Modem Working with OpenSuse 64bit c. Someone who can tell me how to get the Motorola SM56 Modem Working d. Someone who can tell me where I can find a PCI Card with an extra Com Port that is supported by OpenSuse 10.3 (so I can use an External Serial Modem) I am totally lost in that... I've been working night and days to find some solution but I am flat and I am in a hurry... :( Thank you all... This is easy - you should be able to get such a card at e.g. conrad: http://www.conrad.ch. I bought a 6-port serial card not long ago - obviously I can't guarantee that it _will_ work with 10.3 64bit, but I see no reason why it shouldn't. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/ - your spam is our business. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That motherboard appears to have 8 USB ports. Can you not use a USB modem? Cheers, Dave -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
