Do you have k3b-mad package installed? This is the plugin for dealing with mp3 files. Cheers -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny)

"I cannot do xxxx" means a lot of thinks. No offence, though. So, please, can you tell what steps you perform, and where and how it fails. For the future, please take a look at this article: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html I'm not a hacker, but most of the recommendations there will help you to be helped. Sounds very much like you don't have Lame installed then. It can be found on Packman's site and is needed to convert music cd songs to mp3. end of line Lee

Bryan S. Tyson bryantyson@earthlink.net ******************************************************** I have lame installed lame-3.96.1-pm.1
Under the k3b plugin configuration I have the following:- AudioDecoder K3b Flac, K3b Mad, K3b Ogg, K3b Wave AudioEncoder K3b External Audio Encoder, Ogg Vorbis Encoder, Sox Audio Encoder ProjectPlugin K3b Audio Metainfo, K3b Cddb Audio Plugin When I look into the K3b External Audio Encoder configuration there is an entry for lame with the following command lame -q 2 -b 128 --cbr --tt %t --ta %a --tl %m --ty %y --tn %n %f %o Phil

But, but... K3b is a *burner*, right? You're not using it for ripping to mp3?? I didn't know it had that functionality. (Maybe it doesn't :-)) I use kaudiocreator for ripping. Regards, -- Jos van Kan registered Linux user #152704

Well, we must have different versions then (0.12.3) cuz mine can only burn. Or I'm overlooking the obvious. That's known to have happened. :-) Regards, -- Jos van Kan registered Linux user #152704

Ah, found it. Yes, overlooking the obvious. I seem to have an additional K3b Lame Mp3 Encoder plugin that you don't mention. Is this Suse's original version of K3b or the Packman version? I have the Packman version. Suse's original had no mp3 support. Add http://packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/9.3 to your installation sources and upgrade. Regards, -- Jos van Kan registered Linux user #152704 I tried adding the above in the yast2 source installation dialogs but it didn't work. Also I'm only on a 56k link. If I uninstall current version of K3b, then add packman repository to apt sources.list and do an apt install k3b, will this work?

I don't know, I never use apt. But I wonder what does not work in yast. Couldn't you add the URL to the installation sources? Did you search for k3b in yast and clicked the checkbox to get the upgrade icon? For me it always works. Regards, -- Jos van Kan registered Linux user #152704
