[opensuse] how to include a user in audio group?
Hello everyone: It seems i have not been able to listen to any sound in my user account because it is not included in the audio group. Which brings me to the important question: how can I include a user in the audio group? In YaST, go into Security & Users, click on User Managment. Select the user and click on Edit. In the Details tab, you can assign groups. But I'm not in the Audio group and I hear sounds. May be because I'm in the video group? I believe it is because that method is no longer used. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. in a console as root # vi /etc/group locate the audio group and move to the end of the line enter append mode by typing (a) then add ",username" to the end of the line hit [esc] type [:], then wq -- David C. As root: usermod -A audio <user> But I doubt if that's the real cause. $ id uid=1000(theo) gid=100(users) groups=10(wheel),16(dialout),33(video),100(users) No audio group here either. Sure you have the mixer setup properly? Is /proc/asound/oss/sndstat sane? Theo (listening to Virgin) -- Theo v. It worked!, all i had to do was add the user to the audio group and relog... Pierre -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
