[opensuse] Tbird 6.0.2 on 11.4 - 3 issues (slow attachment save, can't delete folder, slow folder scroll)
Guys, Wolfgang, I am seeing 3 issues with the new thunderbird 6.0.2 on 11.4: (1) Attachments are slower than ever to save. Specifically, if I view attachments withing thunderbird, then rt-click -> Save As, I get a dialog window that opens and slowly the files are saved to my local disk. This has always been lightning quick in the past. It looks like 6.0.2 is "re-downloading" the files before saving instead of using the files it has already downloaded. Here is the dialog I get: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/openSUSE_bugs/114/thunderbird/slow-file-save.j... (2) With 6.0.2+dovecot, I can create IMAP folders on the server just fine, but if I misspell a name and need to delete the folder I just created, thunderbird can't delete it. I know this is a new problem, because I have never had a problem deleting folders in the past. Here is the error dialog I get: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/openSUSE_bugs/114/thunderbird/no-delete-folder... I understand this could also be dovecot... What to check? (3) The folder "All Folders" list is slow to scroll in 6.0.X. I use middle-mouse-wheel to scroll up/down to different folders and I have always had instant responsiveness with tbird (from 1.X on). Now with 6.X, there is a delay before scrolling occurs. It's like running kde4 on a 386. I know there have been upstream changes to gtk2 with backports of gtk3 functionality, but I don't know how to tell if this is tbird or gtk related. I presume gtk, but what say the experts? How to test? Thanks for any thoughts you may have... -- David C. Hi John, cannot comment on #2 & #3 (don't use dovecot and have never tried to scroll the folders list) but re #1 I don't see this slow problem: a 4.5MB attachment was saved in a blink of an eye. Thanks Basil, (for JA too), This might be an x86_64 file save issue. That's where I see it. I'll have to test on i586 and see if it's there as well. #2 & #3 are still mysteries. I'd wager the last 2 are dovecot and gtk2 related... -- David C. Thanks Basil, (for JA too),
Hangs head in total shame....... :-[ . At the time when I was in the process of replying, my wife and I were talking about finding an e-mail from a friend of ours, John, who has the habit of attaching massive files containing things like, "Europe in Winter" and so on, so that I could test the speed of saving such a large attachment file wrt point #1. My apologies for having that name, John, stuck in my mind. I really did mean to type David :-) . (Wattamisteakatomaika!)
