[SuSE Linux] SaX autodetects all video cards at 64k vram
I'm using SuSE 5.3, and cannot find any SaX bug fixes at SuSE.com... I've tried a couple of video cards now (S3, Trident, and Tseng based), all with 512k or greater video RAM, but all PCI cards that SaX auto-detects are listed as 64K ram (so no screen resolutions are possible unless you "Expert" modify the vram figure). Any fix for this (i.e. to make sax correctly detect vram)? Also, if you get the horizontal/vertical frequencies wrong, there's no way to try alternative modelines of the same resolution. I.e., if the 800x600 modeline is wrong (screen comes up out of sync while testing the SaX setup), I'd like to ctl-alt-plus to another attempt at 800x600 possibility. Any SaX ways of doing this? Also, is there an upgrade of the SaX database? For example, I was surprised that there was no "Generic SVGA" setting or a setting for my NEC Multisync3D (NEC sold a few billion of those) in the SaX Monitor database. I really think SaX is the best XFree86 auto-configurer available, but it still has some glitches that make video configuration a pain, especially to the new user that expects to know less about their video card and monitor.
