Hello Everyone, I'll make this "Short and Sweet". Has anyone been able to use Sendmail (in SuSE 6.4) with a dialup PPP connection ? If you are one of the lucky ones that has been successful in getting Sendmail to receive & send mail, please respond back as to how you were able to do so. Thank you in advance for your help. -Chris -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Yes and I did not do anything special went with YAST to configure sendmail and after everything was OK went YAST-->system administrastion--> change confirguration and then set sendmailrc config NO because by default YAST (or actually) Suseconfig wants to play with senmail continously. -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@turk.net It said "Needs Windows 98 or better." Yes, I am using sendmail on SuSE 6.4 right now. I had problems with configuring sendmail, and even the might Yast didn't seem to get things quite right. What worked for me is a Perl script called "install-sendmail", written by Donncha O Caoimh at the Cork Linux Users Group. The URL for this great program is http://cork.linux.ie/projects/install-sendmail/ Current version appears to be 5.3.1. Don't run it as root! After installing the config files it produces, (and possibly tweaking my .fetchmailrc), I just use "fetchmail" to get mail from my ISP's pop3 server, and use "sendmail -q" to send out any outgoing messages. Works like a charm. Yast -> system administration -> Change configuration file SENDMAIL_ARGS = -bd -q30m -om SENDMAIL_DIALUP = yes SENDMAIL_EXPENSIVE = no SENDMAIL_GENERICS_DOMAIN = SENDMAIL_LOCALHOST = localhost FQDN-of-your-computer SENDMAIL_NOCANONIFY = no SENDMAIL_NODNS = no SENDMAIL_RELAY = SENDMAIL_SMARTHOST = SENDMAIL_TYPE = yes and set FROM_HEADER = to whatever you want your email address to show up as. i.e. bigfoot.com ( I also put this in SENDMAIL_LOCALHOST ) This works for me without a hitch. -- B. What messages are you getting in the log file? Have you tried to configuring Sendmail using YaST (i.e: System administration ==> Network configuration ==> Configure sendmail)? I found a nice help file for `Configuring Sendmail for Offline Use.' It was written by Simone Govoni. I don't have the exact url but it was at www.tin.it If you visit the site and search, you can find the page. Also `Moongroup Consulting' has a really good archive of mail stuff. It took me a while and I almost switched to qmail, but sendmail now works well for me.
