[SLE] suse printer daemon difficulties
Hello everyone! i've been having the same problem with my printer daemon. I have to log into root and run /sbin/init.d/lpd stop then turn around and run a start command to get the printer to work. I am new to Linux, recently having installed SuSE 6.4 on my Win98 box and I would really appreciate any help. Also, for some reason I have something like 10 extra printers installed in my system ( I have no idea how I ended up doing that), and I don't know how to remove them. Could anyone please tell me how? dumb and dumber, Lynda Chris Herrnberger wrote:
Greetings all;
Could use some help at this end. My print deamon just bit the dust. SyStem
is
SuSE 6.4. (using lrpod package)
Problem:
lpc shows that all print interfaces are up and running but the deamon is dead. issuing a /sbin/init.d/lpd start command fails each and every time.
You are not alone. I have the same problem but -alas- no solution. What I usually do is a /sbin/init.d/lpd stop and /sbin/init.d/lpd/start. Now the daeomon is running again. My PC is a NIS client with home directories mounted over NFS. I have met other peculiar problems and my guess is that the NIS depencency might be to unreliable.
