Hello!
i have to many qt's installed
***snip***
how do i know which is latest?
running "pin <package>' allows you to see when the rpm was built and installed. "pin" stands for "Package IdentificatioN" and the rpm for it should be on your CD or its available from SuSE. Landy, I don't know what you mean when you say you have to many qt's installed. Andrew gave a nice analysis of what each one does, but these are separate "libraries" each serving a different purpose. (they are not "updates" of one another", so knowing when one was built does not mean it should be removed because you have one that was made later) Sure, you probably can eliminate some; tomorrow you may want it back. (I realize there may be disk space problem or security considerations, or other factors --- but what is your criteria for saying you have too many qt's ??? You also asked which one should be in etc/ld.so.conf: when I look in "etc/ld.so.conf" on my system, I see: /usr/X11R6/lib/Xaw95 /usr/X11R6/lib/Xaw3d /usr/X11R6/lib /usr/i486-linux/lib /usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib=libc5 /usr/i486-linux-libc6/lib=libc6 /usr/i486-linuxaout/lib /usr/i386-suse-linux/lib /usr/local/lib /usr/openwin/lib /opt/kde/lib /opt/kde2/lib /opt/kde3/lib /opt/gnome/lib /opt/gnome2/lib /opt/mozilla/lib **** Notice: there are now "qt's" listed, just reference to various libraries --- IIRC, a couple of email's or so back, someone was advised to make sure that "/usr/local/lib" was in their "etc/ld.so.conf"; that isn't what you are referring to, is it? "ldconfig" does the linking that is needs to be done between the various programs and libraries (in most cases) if the proper headers and libraries are there to begin with. I just upgraded to KDE 3.3.1 and I had to install qt3-non-mt-3.1.2-4 before YaST2 would work again, so in my case I didn't have enough qt's My suggestion to you is to be slow in deleting qt's HTH ~Gar -- Mark Twain: "Sorry I wrote such a long email; I didn't have time to write a short one." -- __________________________________________________________________ Try AOL and get 1045 hours FREE for 45 days! http://free.aol.com/tryaolfree/index.adp?375380 Get AOL Instant Messenger 5.1 for FREE!
