Thanks Guys Boy do I feel silly. I did two things. I removed the sound card in Yast2 as Roy suggested. Then used alsaconf and configured the sound card. At that time I was still not getting sound. Then I went in and checked alsamixer, as Art suggested, and now I have sound. I might have tried checking to see if alsamixer was muted first. I never used alsamixer before so I went to the trusty man pages and figure out the the key strokes to configure the alsomixer. Bob On Mon, 2002-02-11 at 03:04, Art Fore wrote:

I seem to be having trouble configuring my sound card. I have a Dell OPTIPLEX computer with a built in sound card. Yast2 finds the following card: 82820 820 (Camino 2) Chipset AC'97 Audio Controller. So it seems to detect the card correctly. But when I click on the test button, there is no sound. Can anyone guide me in the rightI direction on getting my sound card configured.
