Sound card (Envy24/Audiophile 2496) + ALSA problem
Hi, I've just got one of these sound cards (Midiman Audiophile 2496 Pro audio card based on Envy24 chipset) to replace my crappy crackly noisy pants SBlive and I've got a problem! YaST2 detected the card fine and installed all the right ALSA modules as far as I can see. The mixer works fine and I'm able to control that. Problem comes is that nothing will output to /dev/dsp at all - it just crashes with "Device not configured". Any ideas? I'm stumped FYI: snd-oss-pcm.o is loaded, which is what is confusing me. I've reconfigured it with alsaconf too but no luck still. Is this a job for the Alsa list? HELP! - Chris.
Hi, Umm, this is indeed a strange problem. My first instinct, is to check your "/dev" directory. Try locating an audio file, and type the following: cat /path/audiofile.au > /dev/null, replacing the "/path/audio" appropriately..... if you hear something then good. If not......... You're lucky in that I have my laptop in school today. I took a look at the file "/dev/dsp" and found that it was symlinked to "/dev/dso0". Is this the same on yours??? Ooppps,
My original command
cat /path/audio.au > /dev/null, should be the following:
cat /path/audio.au > /dev/audio
Sorry about that (must be exam stress!! -- damn A-levels)
