Solution for no sound in kdetv and other comments.
First of all I hope no one takes this email as a rant against SuSE. I currently use SuSE 8.2 and am quite happy. I usually try to update my system when the next major release is sold by using the previous release. Example: Installed 8.2 when I knew 9.0 was being released. I guess I jumped the gun and was enticed to try and upgrade because of kernel 2.6 and KDE 3.2. For me this was a mistake. I tried for over 5 days to get SuSE 9.1 installed and working as good as my SuSE 8.2. I was not successful so I'm sticking with 8.2 for now since it simply works for me and my hardware. Now for the solution to my kdetv sound problem. Turns out there is a switch under kmix called "Line-In As Surround". This is obtained by clicking the Advanced button. Turning the "Line-In As Surround" off allowed sound from kdetv. I obtained this information from the kwintv list thanks to Stefan Hellwig. I would also like to thank those on this list who replied to my questions and tried to help. My feelings about SuSE 9.1 were diminished by various problems with the sound system. Also, since SuSE 8.2 is working so well for me I'll just stick with it and wait for further development with sound and the 2.6 kernel.
