[SuSE Linux] Problems with StarOffice installation
Hi, I'm trying to install SO5.0, but I can't run the setup program. When I use glibc2 (included in SO5.0), the setup shows the installing window and then hangs my computer (I'm sorry about my english). And when I use shlibs6 (included in SuSE 5.3) setup don't show anything; no window, no error messages, it just do nothing. So... the questions are: ¿Must I download Redhat compatibility package (glibc-rh)? (I don't have a fast&cheap connection) ¿Which the difference with shlibs6? ¿Will it work, so I can install and run SO5.0? A lot of thanks. -- Carlos Garcia - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

This is my experience also. Any help would be appreciated. -- Ben Messinger Linux user #79,342 (Better late than never!) - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Hello Ben, i just installed SO 5.0 earlier this evening, although I didn't get the same type of error, I did get a bad reference to some variable in the old libc library. I took out the old libc directory in my ld.so.conf file in /etc and included the new library installed with the glibc2 package (in my case I installed it in /opt/Office50/lib). Upon doing this (after issuing ldconfig of course) the rest of the install went smoothly. Just a thought... Brian Kalstad

I have the same problem as well. I have done a SO4.3 installation which was relatively painless on a RH 5.1 machine ( by facilitating libc5 ) and now on Suse 5.3 I'm trying to do so5.0 ( w/ glibc2 ) the same way. I get the start up screen and then it freezes for good. I can still telnet into it but I have to cycle power to do anything useful. Any help appreciated. -Pradeep Ben Messinger wrote:
