Hallo Buddy, I still have not succeeded to configure talk. I have one NIS server in my LAN. Every linux machine will log in into the NIS Server except mine. This what I have done to my machines : 1. completed a proper "/etc/hosts" file. I registered all of the machines in my LAN in there. 2. install talk and talk-server. 3. uncommented this lines in the "/etc/inetd.conf": talk dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.talkd ntalk dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.talkd 4. Activated "inetd". I tested my talk with this way : I used 2 machines to test this talk program. One machine named "scrtry" and another is "psubroto". the scrtry is running NIS-Client and logged into NIS server . psubroto is also running NIS-client but only logged in locally (into psubroto local machine). I tried this command : " talk jlampert@scrtry " but I got only this error message : " No connection yet ---[Error on read from talk daemon : connection refused. Press any key.....]--- " And than I got another display of talk program : " [Checking for invitation of caller's machine] " If I tried from scrtry to psubroto like this "talk prabu@psubroto (non NIS account) than I found this error message : " No connection yet ---[Error on read from talk daemon : connection refused. Press any key.....]--- " Anybody would be so nice to tell me... please..... __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. I'm afraid I have very little experience with talk, but there are two places I'd check first. First, since you're running talkd through tcp wrappers, could it be that you have some entry in /etc/hosts.deny that blocks other machines on the talkd port? Second, are you running any sort of firewalls on those machines that would block the connection? If all else fails, you could change the entry in inetd.conf so you run talkd with "in.talkd -d". Then you'll get debugging messages in /var/log/talkd.log regards Anders
My answer is underbelow : PLease keep helping me. This talk program bother me so much. ====

PS>This is my "/etc/hosts.deny" : psubroto:/etc # cat hosts.deny # /etc/hosts.deny # See `man tcpd and `man 5 hosts_access as well as /etc/hosts.allow # for a detailed description. #http-rman : ALL EXCEPT LOCAL psubroto:/etc # " and this is my "/etc/hosts.allow" : " ifirdaus:/etc # cat hosts.deny # /etc/hosts.deny # See `man tcpd and `man 5 hosts_access as well as /etc/hosts.allow # for a detailed description. #http-rman : ALL EXCEPT LOCAL psubroto:/etc # cat hosts.allow # See tcpd(8) and hosts_access(5) for a description. PS>I even have removed my SuSEfirewall2 on each station except the gateway computer (proxy).

PS>I didn't find this log file after retry to "talk" from "scrtry" machine to my machine ("psubroto"). regards, Prabu. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now. http://mailplus.yahoo.com

You did remember to install talk-server.rpm right? -- Mads Martin Jørgensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort?" -- A. P. J.
