I tried to port some apps. to an now ancient Indigo (33 MHz MIPS R2000A/3000 Processor Rev. 3.0) running IRIX 5.3. Tried about a week to compile all of gcc before complaining something about java. Somehow I got my compiler, but don't know how. ;-) There is no SuSE yet for MIPS, but I wonder wether there is some other Linux for it. Juergen

Dunno about Linux, but you could look at NetBSD ( www.netbsd.org ) That's been ported to all sorts of wierd stuff! Hi, There is no SuSE linux for the Indigio2 as there is currently no linux kernel for the Indigo2. The only MIPS based Silicon Graphics which has a `working' linux kernel is the Indy. If you check on SG's website you should be able to find out more info. Andy On Thu, 06 Jul 2000, you wrote:

I had an Indy on my desk for a while, but I moved it into our server room because it was too noisy :) It was running on a MIPS port of Red Hat 5.1 called "Hard Hat Linux" (IIRC). I was not impressed - a lot of the software did not work correctly. Linux on MIPS is not very advanced. AFAIK there is a lot of work to do on the compiler and glibc area. This is as close as you get for now. http://www.linux.sgi.com/ This is one of the port projects to get Linux on an SGI. Not related to SuSE though as far as I know. I don't know how far they are along either. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darren R.
