Re: [SLE] Making DVD
Well I just got a small box of DVD-R. I tried it as root and it worked without a problem. I suspect that thestandard user should be able to write with no problem. I did notice one thing, it went into the DAO write mode on my system. I then tried the DVD+R. Again I have some coasters. Carl William Spitzer IV wrote:

I am running Suse 10.0 with k3b. I have pioneer dvr-509 dvd burener. I am trying to make DVD data disk (DVD+R). I have used their default settings, and have only been able to make coasters. I even have the automatic verify turned on and it passes without any problem. Innteresting, if I use a DVD+RW, it will burn correctly and the system can read the disk.
Whenever I place the DVD+R in, the system comes back and says I have a blank disk. I remember in 9.3, it was working with no problems.
Anyone has any suggestions on fixing this problem

With the older [IE cheap] DVDs I have I can't let it use auto speed when writing. If I set it to the slowest speed everything works fine. How fast are the DVD+R rated? Nick
I tried several, 4x and 8x. The dvd is a pioneer 109 according to k3b but the box says 509. I believe trying it a a lower speed did not help either. I can try it. Nick Zentena wrote:

The 4x never worked right for me in auto mode. The 8x are fine. Nick
I am running k3b on SUSE 10.0. Under 9.3 (different drive) it use to work with no problem. What version are you using? Nick Zentena wrote:

I'm using 10.0. I don't think it worked any better for me with 9.3. I also don't remember what drive is in the box but I don't think the drive is the issue. It works 100% under windows or with 8x DVDs. It's just the 4x that create coasters unless I set the speed manually. Nick

The 4x range had bugs, even the Windows users had a tough time with most models.. my 2c Chadley
I had a friend who is haing the same problem as I am having in the windows world. I lent him one of mine USB DVD player. It worked before. I have to wait until he returns it and try to see if that it works with it. I am beginning to suspect part of the problem is that it is using the Ide drivers. I believe under 9.3, the drives used the scsi version. If I use the USB version, I believe, it will be scsi version. I shall find out next week. Chadley Wilson wrote:
