Re: [SuSE Linux] Need your support for S.u.S.E Newsgroup
People..People What is this? You are bashing one of your friends? I thought I'm coming up with something to help you better, but instead of kudos, I get some negative remarks. Talk about disappointment!!! When I'm asking for Newsgroups, I'm not asking to get rid of Mailing list???? Come on, all other UNIX or LINUX, who has lots of newsgroup, has mailing list too. Am I wrong? Ok, granted you're sick and tired of all the Spam or whatever shit drives you nuts in the newsgroup, just read your mailing list. Hey, some people still likes newsgroups (Oh, I do think mailing list is a cool thing . really!). Again, you have to support anything that may makes things easier for newbies (well, you don't have to, you're expected to ;p ). Like the other person said in this mailing list "Even M$ has 100s of newsgroup related to its products" If you have mailing list only, a newbie may not know how to subscribe. I saw various Usenet messages where newbies asking, "How do I subscribe to this or that"---(doesn't it tell you, they have access to newsgroup before mailing list?). My co-worker next to me thinks just like you do ."if they're not smart enough to subscribe to simple mailing list, may be they shouldn't even be using Linux" ----I think for people like him, Linux sometimes become the operating system choice for computer newbies. Shame on them!! ;p Anyway, I saw this often... one person would say something negative, and there goes a flow of people saying negative stuff about that.... ;p Some people doesn't even read the original message, they just wanna say NO he he he (No, I'm not talking about you, I'm just talking about them) Just another Regular Guy ---D Anich <fourkats@ihug.co.nz> wrote:

Hi All, I don't know why S.u.S.E doesn't have any newsgroup for their product while other linux distributor has theirs?
Ask SuSE. Well SuSE , why don't you? :-)
Anyway, I suggest
there should be newsgroups so we don't have to browse through 5-6 hundred email to find out answers to our problem.
Make that 5-6 thousand.
I think its not me, but most of you out there feel the same way. So, we all need to
our feedback to S.u.S.E Inc. our need as customers.
...and HOW would a NEWSGROUP be easier to find what you're looking for with all the extra trash/noise that would undoubtedly exist? How is that better than a mailing list?
A newsgroup isn't always better than a mailing list. But there are many people who would ask a question / get involved in a newsgroup, who wouldn't do so with a mailing list. Mailing lists are high volume, you have to subscribe to them & so, they are not viable to everyone. - You can't just pop into a mailing list every once & a while like you would with usenet. It would be great to have a mailing list as well as a newgroup, for some, one is better than the other.
Search for "microsoft" on your usenet server, MS has more newsgroups than you can count on your fingers & toes.
bye.
PS - I still think an alt.os.linux.suse is a good idea. All
main distributions seem to have a usenet group of some sort.
