I want to install FAX4CUPS to work with HylaFax, and have found a package for it that is a noarch.rpm. My understanding from definitions I find on the Web is that this means it is CPU-hardware independent, so I can use it in a x86_64 system; what about distribution dependence?. The package is not marked as being associated with any distribution; can I use it with openSuSE? -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That's one of the nice things about using RPM packages. You install it and if it doesn't work you can uninstall it. So... After you have installed and tested it let the rest of us know how it worked. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That has more to do with where it installs in the directory tree, and where it looks for shared libraries. Since it is noarch, it should not be looking for anything in /usr/lib or /usr/lib64, so you should be OK. The package is not marked as being associated with any distribution; can I use it with openSuSE?
Should be able. Check it to see where it installs, and what, it should be obvious if it will not. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You can use it with openSUSE, but unfortunately the package installs to /usr/lib/cups/backend. On a 64 bit system the correct directory is /usr/lib64/cups/backend It's just shell scripts, so they should work. You just have to move them from /usr/lib to /usr/lib64 Anders -- Madness takes its toll -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That's where they were, and that's what I did. I'm glad I asked the question. I've learned another little thing from the answer. Thanks.
