There have been various threads on DVD on SuSE, and different things seem to work for various people. However, last night I managed to actually view a DVD on Linux. The most recent packages (Xine 0.9.8) are at: http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/~jcm/skyblade/XINE-0.9.8/ and I chose i686.RPMS. The short advice is to download and install everything except the w32 codec - a total of around 1.7Mb. Although it doesn't say so, for instance, you need to have libdvdread-devel installed in order to use libdvdcss (thanks to (UK) Linux Magazine for that titbit - my previous attempt a few days ago foundered on a "no input file" error which this sorted out). To get sound, you have to start xine with audio enabled, ie: xine -A oss or xine -a libvorbis or whatever takes your fancy - again, thanks to LM for this. There is a slight visual artifact on the default control panel, such that the quit and setup icons (on the lower left-hand edge) are actually hidden under the d4d button, but they appear if you roll the mouse over them. This may be of some help to others who are still DVDless. Kevin

To change brightness, it would be under controls. Xine 0.9.8. I didn't need libdvdread or libdvdcss. I used Captaincss d4d plug-in? ignorance is bliss. -----Original Message----- From: andre@do [mailto:andre@do.co.za] Sent: Saturday, March 16, 2002 3:35 PM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] Xine on SuSE 7.3 Kevin Donnelly wrote: the

It's on the lower right-hand edge of the control-deck. It's a little box with sliders on it. When you click on that it opens a larger slider-box where you can adjust hue, brightness, contrast, etc. Very clever really. Kevin

:) this desktop stuff is hard... nope the sliders just stay on 0% and no amount of poit & click (left/right) does anything. Think I have to make changes to ~/.xine/config but : the lines that are supposed to be there (to be changed) isn't... thx andre -- +27 834433455 Atp (Pty) Ltd.

Ah, now that I have tried to adjust them, I see that only Brightness is adjustable. Still, I can live with that. Kevin

Awfully sorry, Andre, but I don't seem to have one ... I don't know if this is default behaviour or what ... Kevin
Using the Xv video driver, I get the following lines to alter brightness (and the sliders work in xine itself). # Xv property # [0..16777215], default: 2110 video.XV_COLORKEY:2110 # Xv property # bool, default: 1 video.XV_AUTOPAINT_COLORKEY:1 # Xv property # [-512..511], default: 340 video.XV_BRIGHTNESS:-1 # Xv property # [0..8191], default: 4096 video.XV_CONTRAST:4096 # Xv property # [0..8191], default: 4096 video.XV_SATURATION:4096 # Xv property # [0..360], default: 0 video.XV_HUE:0 Ewan On Mon, 2002-03-18 at 21:06, Kevin Donnelly wrote:

I don't have these at all. The only reference I have to a driver is: # gamma correction for XShm driver # [-100..100], default: 0 video.xshm_gamma:0 Where does the Xv come from? Kevin
