To answer my own question, the corrupted file is: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/susewm/susewm.db Removing the NUL bytes at the end solved the problem. A more informative error message would be nice. Jeffrey Quoting IEEE alias <jeff.taylor@ieee.org>:

What file do I need to rebuild and how?
