Can't enable 3d with NVIDIA drivers
I'm having trouble with SUSE 9.2 pro 64 bit. I'm using the latest version of the NVIDIA drivers from YOU. The problem is that if I enable 3D acceleration, when I restart X, I get a blank screen. The light on the monitor stays green, so some kind of signal is reaching the monitor. Alt+Enter doesn't do anything. Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't restart the system. If I try to switch to the console (Ctrl+Alt+F2), it still doesn't do anything. I've tried logging in as root (even though I can't see anything on screen) and rebooting the system (shutdown -r now), but it doesn't work. The only way I can get back into X is by rebooting to Failsafe mode, running YAST and disabling 3d. I've had it working before, but I'd run into this problem sporadically. Now it does it all the time. I don't know if it matters, but I have two GeForce 6800 GTs (SLI system). Any suggestions? Yippee38 ____________________________________________________ Yahoo! I've gotten some stuff figured out, but I'm still stumped. After checking my XF86Config file, I discovered that it was still pointing to "nv" rather than "nvidia". That would explain why it failed every time I tried to add 3d support. However, when I changed it to "nvidia" without 3d support, I got the same result. So I decided to download and install the drivers manually since I know there is a new version. I downloaded the drivers and followed nvidia's instructions. I've got the kernel-sources installed. On step two they say to run "modprobe agpgart". I did that and got the following: FATAL: Module AGPGART not found. Of course, the installation failed. Could I be having a problem because my cards are PCI-Express rather than AGP? SUSE detects them as being PCI rather than AGP. If you hadn't guessed, I'm a bit out of my depth here, and I'm struggling to figure this stuff out. I'm not necessarily a linux newbie, but I'm no expert either Yippee38 --- Yippee Three-eight <yp_38@yahoo.com> wrote:
