Thanks very much. I much appreciate your response however, I am not using screensavers and therefore the password field is blank anyway. The solution needs to be such that it cannot be reset by the user. Our situation is that our machines (xterminals) are multi-user. If someone uses the KDE screenlock, others are not able to use the machine without rebooting it. We have setup xlock with a timeout function which we encourage our people to use, however (much to our annoyance) some people are still using the KDE "embedded" screenlock. That's 'very complicated' but I will tell you the short version. You go in KDE Control Center -> Look and Fell -> ScreenSavers -> and deselect the password fild.
