This is the problem : I'm trying to use the SMC2835W 802.11g (54Mbps) wireless PCMCIA card with SuSE 9.1, without success. I cannot even give any command to the card; it remains totally dead. (It works under Windows, so the hardware is OK).

Nothing happens, the led's on the card remain dark and I cannot get to it with any command at all. Apparently the "device soft reset timed out" is the problem, but what can I do about it ??? // cut

I purchased the D-Link DWL-G520+ wireless NIC to use on my SuSE 9.1 Professional.
After much effort and no luck, what worked for me was to visit the www.linuxant.com web site and download the Driverloader application.
Once installed (and following the instructions) I could use the WinXP drivers that shipped with the card to get it recognised in SuSE.
Yes, I also found this solution last week and installed it. Initially it worked fine indeed (and I was a happy man) but later I experienced random system freezes, and had to cut power to restart again. Sometimes I could work for 5 hours without any problems, but at other times the system froze 3 time in an hour. There was no pattern in the freeze moments that I could detect. After deinstalling the Driverloader the freeze problem was gone ! Therefore I am back at deparately trying to get a solution for the "device soft reset timed out" problem as mentioned above. I'm not sure what the problem is, I am using an SMC2835W (v1) with PrismGT chipset with no problems (well, I am stuck with WEP until I get around to figuring out wpa_supplicant). All I did, that I recall, was install the drivers that appear in YOU, and then modprobe. Mitch, Three questions : 1. Where is your card manufactured ? Mine is "made in China". Is your's too ? (I've read somwhere that somebody had a card made in China that did NOT work and another one from the same brand made in Singapore that did work). 2. I didn't see ant drivers in YOU, are you sure ?
