Hi I have own 486DX4 with 16MB ram and ethernet via full TCPIP but no CDROM. I am a new to learn SuSe this list. I'm doing using NFS via FTP to install a harddisc. using boot-disk then I configure my ethernet, everything is ok. select NFS network via ftp.gwdg.de where to get in /pub/linux/suse/5.1/ suse/setup directory . I want to install the source into a hard disc from SuSe FTP site. it went wrong. NFS network says An error occurred while trying to mount the nfs directory. Reason given by Server: Permission denied. What does that mean? I was stuck with getting SuSe packages to install my local harddisc via FTP from DOS prompt. I thought I cant getting the SuSe files but I need to get SuSe 5.1 installation with permission. How? Thank you Help me! Here is a copy of README.FTP:- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ English: The unmodified mirror tree of S.u.S.E. Linux can be used as NFS installation source only for machines with at least 16 MB of RAM. To be able to use your mirrored S.u.S.E. Linux as a nfs installation source for machines with less RAM, there are two steps that need to be done. 1. Change the file permissions for the files in suse/setup/tools to make these files executable (usually ftp leaves the files 644). 2. Unpack the installation system contained in the file suse/inst-sys.tgz since the files within cant be transferred via ftp (devices etc). We provided a script that can do the work for you. It sets up a complete copy of the tree using hard links, where it unpacks the installation system to keep mirror from removing the files within the inst-sys. After that the file permissions in suse/setup/tools are corrected. Start the script using: prepare_ftp source destination where SOURCE is the mirrored S.u.S.E. Linux root directory and DESTINATION is the directory used for client nfs installation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Cheers K.Y.Lo Email: kyl@soton.ac.uk -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
