I've just set up ALSA in 6.4. Previously I've bee using OSS. I have a SB64 AWE Gold card. Everything works fine except playback of MP3's using xmms or kmp3. How do enable sound for these programmes ? Hmm, I use xmms and mpg123 in combination with OSS without problems. Do you get an error message? What does /var/log/messages say? My dear Lenz, it's midnight in Germany, and you should have gone to bed. Or are these still the effects from your flight with me, doing aerobatics (loops, rolls, spins), during LWE? I hope you recommended flying with me ;-) (I'll take up Volker this weekend, by the way, for aerobatics of course) He's talking about ALSA.... Anyway, I'm using ALSA, now with 7.0 and previously with 6.4. In xmms, when I use the eSOund Output plugin for sound output, the a minute song is played in 10 seconds ;-) The OSS plugin works fine. freeamp also works fine. kpm3 is way too slow. That's all using 7.0, in 6.4 I only used xmms, and I guess I used the OSS plugin for sound output (go to Preferences to select plugins). -- Michael Hasenstein http://www.suse.de/~mha/ SuSE Linux AG, Nuernberg (Germany) SuSE Inc., Oakland, California (US) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
Gruess Gott, On my previous job I spent quite a lot of time in Vienna and got used to this German greeting. Excuse me my sentiments. Now I live closer to Michael than Lenz, I live in Concord, CA. But back to the topic. I am using alsaplayer and have no problems with MP3 on 6.4 system. I am using the latest alsa from SuSE, i.e. 0.5.8, and alsaplayer 0.99.32. My guess is that something is wrong with xmms, not alsa. Regards, Kastus. On Thu, 24 Aug 2000, Michael Hasenstein wrote:
