Does anyone have information on a good idiot's guide to Cygwin page? I downloaded it, installed it and all I get is a terminal for which I can't log in.
Thanks, Tom
Tom, What do you mean, you can't login. Normally Cygwin gives you a bash shell on your local PC and no login is required. If you need to get a shell on your suse box, use ssh from the cygwin window. Cygwin traditionally is a shell with a collection of *NUX cmd level programs. (i.e. tar, awk, sed, etc.) No GUI stuff at all. They have recently added a X-windows server, that allows an X-client app to display output on it. Some people are using this X-windows server to connect to a SuSE box and get a full kde environment going. i.e. kde is running on the SuSE box, but the user interface is provided by the cygwin box. Note: In X terminology, the application is the client, and the user interface is the server. Many people are confused by that. If this is what you want, it has been discussed a few times in the archives over the last few months. Do a search for xdm, or kdm.
