[opensuse] cannot get kmail to download imap gmail or folder structure
I just started up kmail, and I was able to get my pop account working for another email that I have. This email account, at gmail, I have set up on imap. I set up the account using the account wizard, and it will not download the folder structure I have set up on gmail, nor will it download any email. It also does not give me any error message - at least I don't see any. The only indication that when I right-click on the googlemail folder in the left folder pain and hit "check mail", down at the bottom left it says "checking account Googlemail.com for new mail." It will continue to say this until indefinitely, and it never downloads new mail. I verified that my security settings, port settings, and everything are exactly as I have them on thunderbird, where I am also using this account, with IMAP settings, and everything works fine using thunderbird. Someone please help me to know how to troubleshoot! G -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

G That first incident was on my desktop, and I am using OS 11.4 64bit with KDE 4.6. I also just now opened up Kmail for the first time on my laptop, which is also running OS 11.4, but it is 32bit. Also it is KDE 4.6. On my laptop also I just tried to set up to run my IMAP gmail account, and it does the same thing - it won't download the folders or

It just continues to have the notice in the bottom left corner, but no error message is displayed and it never actually downloads the email. I must be doing something wrong, but I cannot figure out what. I set up all the same settings on Kmail as on Thunderbird on both my desktop and my laptop, and in both cases Thunderbird downloads the gmail just fine, but Kmail won't download it at all. Yet Kmail downloads my pop email from another server without a problem. George -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

George, I have had a similar problem with kmail using pop3. Although the settings appear normal, the only thing that has helped is to go into the settings and at each dialog window in send and receive I would delete forward and backward all that's in that window then reinter the same info. Then miraculously it worked again. I surmise that there is some invisible character that has gotten into one of the entry windows, but have no way to prove it. I haven't been able to identify any particular event that creates the problem. When I run Thunderbird I never have that problem. Before I get bit by the Kmail2 gremlins, I'm going back to Tbird. Wow, well, I tried that, and nothing doing. I also just now set it up to test my yahoo email, which I also have as IMAP working in thunderbird, and it is the same thing. no connection by IMAP in Kmail to download folders and emails, but no error message or anything. It just sits there with a message in the corner and never connects. Do you think there is a bug in this latest Kmail 4.4.1 in that it won't work with IMAP? I have tried it on 2 different computers, and neither of them will connect by IMAP. Sounds like kmail is not talking out IMAPS -- google's IMAP is IMAPS (just like HTTP/HTTPS, there's IMAP/IMAPS), and they use different ports (143/993)...but usually the port is selected automatically based on whether you use secure IMAP or not... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Go to google's mail and look in the 'help' section, IIRR. This was happening to me and what 'fixed' it was that I had to login and do something with the google site so that I didn't have to keep trying to log in from kmail...or something like that. It's a little bit of a PITA, but I bet that's what's going on. I looked on all the gmail help with IMAP, made sure all the "show" boxes were checked, etc., and did what they asked, and nothing. It still won't work with the IMAP server on yahoo, either, and thunderbird does. I think Thunderbird is going to win this one. AFAIK, google offers IMAPS. your firewall needs to be opened to allow access on tcp port 993. See if thats set. Also on Kmail 3.5.x (using KDE3.5), When setting up the imap account, it lists options to show Server side subscribed folders, local subscribed folders. By default both of these are not selected and the result is an account without at imap folders. Select Serverside subscribed folders and it will show the imap folders that are created in gmail. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
