[opensuse] yast repository priority
12.3 Hi A priority of 97 is a higher priority than 99, right? So, If I zypper dup, it will take the version from the 97 repo? Specifically, samba:TESTING 97 and samba:STABLE 99 Thanks, L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yep.

I believe that with dup, priority takes precedence over newer release. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from oS 12.3 "Dartmouth" GM (rescate 1)) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Vale. So can I do this? Have both repos installed and say, 'reinstall everything that is already installed but take it from samba:TESTING' and then switch back to samba:STABLE. yast used to have a 'switch to this repo' but I can't find it in 12.3 Saludos, Lynn -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Oops. I was going to check the switch thing, but I forgot, and now I can't use that machine. zypper I dunno. I don't like it for these things. Yesterday I tried to use it to install acroread. I didn't notice that it had autoselected another gigabyte of files till it had been working for 15 minutes... I was on another workspace. I aborted it, nothing installed. Thankfully. With yast I get a pop-up warning. More difficult to miss. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Are you inferring that "zypper [dup/up]" installs or upgrades items w/o first presenting you a list of those items? I have never experienced this. And because I am concerned about what is going to to be changed, I use "zypper -v [dup/up]" which offers some explanation. The use of "-vv" gives more detailed information. And I seldom defer to yast2 any more since zypper from the cl is so useful. I still like the information available in yast but prefer zypper day-to-day. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No, zypper presented a list, but I did not read it and accepted "as is". I was not expecting anything else to be installed, so I simply did not look above the current line. My fault entirely. What I say is that YaST presents an intrusive dialog which is not so easy to not look at. When nothing is added automatically because of dependencies, the dialog doesn't pop up.

With yast I typically remember to look at the summary tab. If not, I notice the dialog, abort, then I go to the summary tab instead to check. I can see for each package a description and what repo it comes from. I can change the decision made on a single package if I wish. The information is detailed and I can do adjustments. I'm more comfortable with it, I make fewer mistakes. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
