[opensuse] Latest NVidia driver update 185.18.31 crashes X on Quadro NVS 140M
Hey! The latest update of the nvidia-gfxG02 driver from the NVIDIA Repository crashes X on my ThinkPad R61 with a Quadro M series graphics card. This is a known issue and was fixed in 185.18.36: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_185.18.36.html Jan -- The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, you're still a rat. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Same for T61... How to solve this problem? By installing older version? How to do that with zypper (do not have X anymore...). Audrius -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

On 11.1 you can use the failsafe entry from the boot menu to get X working again in order to download and install the new driver. If you install the driver manually, make sure to remove the packages first, having both is likely to cause trouble. You can do that with zypper se nvidia, to find the packages installed and zypper rm packagenames to remove them. Another option if your internet is up would be to do wget http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/185.18.36/NVIDIA-Linux- x86-185.18.36-pkg1.run or wget http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/185.18.36/NVIDIA- Linux-x86_64-185.18.36-pkg2.run init 3 and sh ./NVIDIA... to install it. init 5 starts X again. I used yast from tty1 to remove all these nvidia-packages. Then I rebooted and had a working X again. As a workaround you can install the latest G01 nvidia drivers, they still do work for me. There will be an update to .136, I hope that this will fix the problem: http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=533528 Gruß Jan -- Government can't change the course of the ship, it merely adjusts the compass. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, I have my X back too, but now have problem with mouse. I can not move windows with my mouse... I even can not select text with mouse... When I push main mouse button for moving window or scrolling or text selection mouse pointer stays in place, instead moving. Where to look for solution? Your left mouse button seems to be used for the emulation of the mouse wheel. While this sounds quite useless for a common wheel mouse, it is needed for scrolling with your Trackpoint. For my R61, the second mouse button (the middle one) is used for this emulation. Please compare your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to mine: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_OpenSUSE_10.2_on_a_ThinkPad_R61#Tra...
