I get exactly the same results. Whether for my SanDisk Cruzer 512 or my Palm Zire 31, when I plug the device in, I get no response on my desktop, and /var/log/messages says

several times. I can't find anything about this in the manuals or HOWTO's. (Actually, my Logitech trackball just plugged in and went. But it did that in 9.0 and Mandrake, too).

How can I get past this, so I can start trouble shooting the things the manuals talk about?
