[opensuse] ssh tunnelling for firefox
Hello :-) I try using a tunnelling from openSUSE 11.1 to an online server with the syntax below with firefox: $ssh -D 9999 username@ip-address-of-ssh-server and proxy localhost 9999 in firefox google seems to say there is nothing more to do, but FF keep saying the proxy don't accept the connection I tried this with a 10.2 server (old, I know, to be replaced by the next) and ubuntu server with the same result. of course the connection terminal to the server opens, I give the pass, but FF still don't works any idea? thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://news.opensuse.org/2009/04/13/people-of-opensuse-jean-daniel-dodin/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You have to specify that you want to use "SOCKS Host" proxy, as type, and use SOCKS v5 option It should work. If not, try as well Socks v4 option.

any idea?

Hey there jdd, Isn't it easiest to use 'NX' for this? Other than launching a full X Desktop to another machine, it's also possible to launch a single application. The only downside is that the proxy server needs to be running an instance of 'FreeNX' (which means I assume you have root permission to that machine) and the client needs to have the (free) nomachine.org client installed. Perhaps this isn't want you want but it seems to meet all your demand (proxy a browser over ssh). Best of luck. Joris On Sun, May 31, 2009 at 09:42, jdd <jdd@dodin.org> wrote:

normally there should be no nx necessity, but Firefox seems more difficult if I can't find here, I will ask on firefox help, but for now I probably stop this and go to more iportant things I never thought this would be so hard :-( jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://news.opensuse.org/2009/04/13/people-of-opensuse-jean-daniel-dodin/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
