Anyone using a Tungsten on SuSE?
If so, do you do anything else other than sync the general items? Tom

Yes. You'll need 8.2 IIRC to get the versions of JPilot and pilot-link that support USB, and the kernel that supports the Tungsten. For earlier versions, you'll have to edit and compile the visor module (an easy hack) as well as compile pilot-link 0.11.5 and JPilot 0.99.5. I use JPilot to do a complete backup of the Tungsten and regularly use WordSmith, and I've used the AvantGo conduit also. What exactly were you wanting to know? I'm not sure what I want to know. I've got a T3 and would like to get it setup at home so that I can sync, transfer files, etc. Basically, I have a Belkin Bluetooth USB adapter that I would like to use. I guess I should get it setup via cable before I go off on the BT thing. I'm running 9.0 now. Have no idea what IIRC is, but is it on my system or CDs? I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to this stuff, if you could give me a quick step by step, I'd appreciate it. Also, have you tried any bluetooth stuff? Tom

I use T2 with SuSE 8.2. The only change I made was ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 /dev/pilot (instead of ttyUSB1 for i.e. m500) Everything is working fine.

Yes - you should find that setting up the cable sync is pretty painless. Install pilot-link and JPilot off the SuSE 9.0 CD/DVD and you should have no troubles - just run JPilot, press the HotSync button on your cradle, press the Sync button in JPilot and away you go. I've not tried Bluetooth myself so can't advise on that. One thing to watch is that JPilot might complain that it can't find your Palm. In which case, ensure that JPilot is looking to sync on the port /dev/pilot, then create /dev/pilot as a symlink to /dev/usb/ttyUSB0 - by default, this might point to /dev/usb/ttyUSB1, which is the port used by older Palms. Once this is basically working, you'll find that JPilot acts essentially like PalmDesktop under Windows - it will display your contacts, appointments, memos and ToDos, and let you edit them on the PC. It handles syncing data and installing files onto the Palm. It also has various plugins available. One that I'd recommend definitely installing is the Backup plugin - this is a more-capable and more-configurable backup utility the enhance the basic backup performed by JPilot. If there are any other questions, just ask!

Sorry - it means "if I remember correctly". I meant that you need SuSE 8.2 at least to run a Tungsten without any faffing around. You've got 9.0 so shouldn't have any problems. Reading your thread I found how to dont use serial in my palm sync. And USB sync works better. On Mon, 2003-11-03 at 03:26, John Pettigrew wrote:

Glad it helped. It's the great advantage of public lists - they help more than just the person who made the original query. :-) John -- John Pettigrew Headstrong Games john@headstrong-games.co.uk Fun : Strategy : Price http://www.headstrong-games.co.uk/ Board games that won't break the bank Knossos: escape the ever-changing labyrinth before the Minotaur catches you!
