Hi Folk's, I was wondering if anyone has experience with BMC Patrol on any flavour of Unix/Linux, and more importantly where in the hell it installs its init scripts to. I've found a few of them in /opt/bmc but in no place sensible. Also what are your opinions of it and have you come across anything better; so far I've pulled lots of pretty graphs off the console, but nothing really (to me) valuable. Regards, Ben
You'd probably be a lot better off using Nagios. It's a lot less expensive and does most of what BMC Patrol does... Braun

I'd love to, however the licences for Patrol have already been bought and the bosses want to do complete performance monitoring of the Oracle DB's, which patrol apparently does rather well. Regards, Ben
Wouldn't life be so much easier if we didn't have those damn pointy haired bosses? :-) Braun Brelin

Yes, but so lacking in "challenges" :-) But TBH as there is a need for a performance monitoring app, as well as a system alerting and monitoring Patrol is a good fit. Its just a pity about the brain dead webbased click next and drool installer, the lousy documentation, the insane configuration and the appaling UI (win3.1 anyone). Still the support guys are ok, if windows orientated, and I hear that SMS is very good. Regards, Ben
