RE: [SLE] XFree86-4.3.0 and Suse 8.1 request for assistance
I have successfully upgraded to Xfree86-4.3 over the weekend. First I installed apt4rpm as I only have a dial-up connection and apt will restart broken downloads. Then I used the latest "sources" file and commented out the "base" entry I then ran: * "apt-get update" * "apt-get -f install" to make sure everything was hunky-dory. Then: * "SuSEconfig" After this, "apt-get -s Xfree86" suggested that a lot of packages would be removed So I downloaded all (except DRI) the rpms from ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/Xfree86/Xfree86-4.3/suse81/ <ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/Xfree86/Xfree86-4.3/suse81 /> , including qt3 I installed with "rpm -Uvh", occasionally using "rpm -Uvh --force" After successful installation, I deleted all "cache-1" files from the X11R6 fonts directory so that SuseConfig could be run. Next Sax2. This kept failing but inspection of "/var/log/Sax.log" showed a missing shared "qt3" library which I fixed by creating a symbolic link to the latest Sax2 then ran successfully. I'm sorry I cannot provide more details, I'm currently at work, using windoze :-( I hope this helps y'all -- Sylvanus A. And, how did you do that? from the original 8.1 discs? If so, I don't have them. I hate to ask you to do all that work but I'm sure others on the list may need that help also. What I don't understand is that there must be others who have successfully done the upgrade.
