Hi again! I have several issues with my Linux configuration. I had upgraded to 7.1 and kde 2.0 was working, but... I upgraded xfree to 4.0.3 and KDE to 2.1 at the same time. Now, when I type 'startx', KDE complains that dcopserver is not running. I tried the following:
1) download http://keithp.com/~keithp/fonts/truetype.tar.gz and put these fonts in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/ 2) run: SuSEconfig -module fonts 3) rpm -Uvh qt-experimental.rpm
but it doesn't change anything. And this one too:
All 3 of these problems are because of the startkde script in SuSE's kde2.1 rpms. If I use the vanilla startkde script from kde.org all 3 of these problems dissapear.
but it generates many errors and doesn't start X. I also saw that someone had suggested to startup dcopserver manually but I don't know how to do this. That was problem number one which is blocking for me. Problem 2 is that the picture at the screen is shaking horizontally when the hard disk is accessed. I don't have this problem in a win... environment. It means that it's not a simple hardware problem. My graphic card is an ATI Xpert@play (rage pro). Any idea where this could come from? Problem 3... I should rather say questions. Where do we change the desktop size? I don't like it to be bigger than the display. Where do I tune the positive and negative synchronization of the screen? Now both horizontal and vertical are positive and I think that I might get a better image quality if they were negative. I thank you a lot for your suggestions about these issues! Patrick
