Hi all, whenever I start up my Suse 10.1 the CPU is busy with 100% for about 4 minutes. It seems to be the update checker. Is this correct? It seems to take very long... After it has finished, the system runs very smooth... What can I do? Kind regards, Martin

Maybe it is Beagle? I had it installed by mistake and it was sucking all my system's performance away. Praise

The thing sucking up all resources at every login is the ZenWorks update system. In addition to throttling your machine for 3-4 minutes on every login, it frequently crashes when trying to actually update the system. Even if ZMD is set to only check once per day for new updates, it STILL does the full check every time you log in to X. With 10.1, there are now SuSE packages for apt, which takes up far fewer resources and, you know, actually works. Beagle is another major resource hog. The day after I installed 10.1, I turned on my machine and beagle thrashed my hard drive for an hour and a half before I gave up, killed it and uninstalled it.
