Hi, I installed XGL and Compiz on my Opensuse 10.1 KDE 3.5.4 desktop to 'have a play'. Following the instructions on here: http://en.opensuse.org/Using_Xgl_on_SUSE_Linux#Using_Compiz_with_the_KDE_des... Very impressed with it, however as I'm only running a 1.8GHz CPU it's a bit too demanding even with all the effects switched off. Also as it replaces my window manager all the KDE settings are redundant. However if I switch of XGL the Window boarders are missing and my keyboard doesn't work. What should I/How can I set my KDEWM to to revert things back to normal? Regards Matthew

You can use gnome-xgl-settings --disable-xgl or get this little script: http://www.compiz.net/viewtopic.php?pid=36186#p36186 Allows you to switch between decorator of your choice. Cheers! -J

I'll take a look at the script but as I stated using the gnome-xgl-settings --disable-xgl breaks my WM so I have to leave it switched on. Cheers Matthew

Hm. You have to logout, probably even to restart the Xserver (Ctrl-Alt-BS) before loggin in again. If that doesn't help, please open a bugreport. I've rebooted the PC as well as restarting X, makes no diff. Can't see why it would break Xorg though as it's not been touched. I'll play a bit more and raise a report if I don't get any where. Cheers Matthew

Do that. Please don't forget the files stated in the Wiki. CU Matthias -- Matthias Hopf <mhopf@suse.de> __ __ __ Maxfeldstr. 5 / 90409 Nuernberg (_ | | (_ |__ mat@mshopf.de Phone +49-911-74053-715 __) |_| __) |__ labs www.mshopf.de

If you just want your window borders Alt+f2 -> kwin --replace (with double dash) should do it.

Yes, but the question is why the automatism doesn't work. Matthias -- Matthias Hopf <mhopf@suse.de> __ __ __ Maxfeldstr. 5 / 90409 Nuernberg (_ | | (_ |__ mat@mshopf.de Phone +49-911-74053-715 __) |_| __) |__ labs www.mshopf.de

1. rm /usr/local/bin/compiz.sh /opt/kde3/env/kdewm.sh 2. search for xgl in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, change that parameter (that I don't remember exactly) to "Xorg"; run SuSEconfig

OK, that has the same effect, when X starts the window boarders are missing and I've no keyboard input (although I can switch terminals to put Xgl back). Looks like I'm stuck with Xgl! Matthew

Did you do the above?
