Hi all....
I've got a system with these cards in it. But when I try to setup the video there is no 3D support. What am I doing wrong?
The drivers released have an assortment of precompiled kernel modules. If you have a newer kernel (or one that has been optimized or is in some other way non-standard) then chances are there will be no precompiled module for your kernel. As such, the cards should work fine in 2D, but when it comes to 3D, the module is not available and must be manually compiled. I am not sure about 3dfx's products, but in ATI's case this means a custom DRI module must be built for your kernel. I have built these modules in other architectures (e.g. RedHat), but to be honest, I am having trouble compiling the module for my SuSE 9.0 installation. SuSE seems to use a non-standard directory structure for its source code that is somewhat foreign to me. It keeps the modules, source and headers in 3 separate directories. As far as I remember RedHat did not do this and the make.sh script included with ATI's fglrx drivers seems to get confused. If anybody could help with any of these issues I would appreciate it, as I would really like to see how America's Army plays in Linux. Thanks.
