How about editing your sendmail.rc.config and putting your relay to your isps out going mail server. This works much better then having your box do this work. You should send it to them..and have them send it to it's destination.
Ben, I tried your way first, and that seems to have done it. All is working well. It makes sense to do it this way. Funny though, if I used any other MUA, say Xemacs, when I would send the message to my mqueue, it would do it immediately, cept for Mutt. Now, the mongrel is working fast again. My thanks to Niels, Flo, and Jeff who also responded in my "time of need" .. thanks guys! <p> -- Best regards, Gary

named is included in SuSE x.y IIRC, the configuration file shipped with it contains configuration for a caching-only name server. ( You will have to uncomment the respective lines) read also - if you want to know exactly which lines to uncomment ;-) http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/DNS-HOWTO.html Flo

The caching name server is installed by default. I have chosen to look up the IP numbers for outgoing and incoming mailservers, and these IP numbers I have used for the mail setup instead of the domain names provided by my ISP. It works fine.
