I got a new Dell desktop. It came with Windows installed at the factory. I have to set up a duaul-boot system and install SuSE 8.2 Question: Can SuSE partitioner resize Windows partitions ? If it can't ... Should I use "Partition Magic" or ... what else ? Thank you. Maura

My experience is that the most reliable tool for this job has been Partition Magic. If you don't have any experience with Linux partitioning tools I'd recommend you to use Partition Magic if you got it around. AFAIK SuSE cannot resize NTFS partitions, only fat32. D.C.

I think I read that ver. 9.0 will have a tool to resize NTFS partitions. Of course the person that posted that info could be just as wrong as the person that said that 9.0 would be available starting today. -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998

Last week someone suggested " http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/ " as a tool to resize NTFS partitions. I haven't tried but maybe it will work. -- 73 de Donn Washburn __ " http://www.hal-pc.org/~n5xwb " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 a MSDOS Virus "Free Zone" OS Email: n5xwb@hal-pc.org Info: http://www.knoppix.net
We get a fair number of dell's here where I work and the majority come with fat32 partitions and a tool to convert to ntfs. So you may be in luck. Boot into windows and open my computer and right click your c: drive and click properties. There it should say something like "File System NTFS" or FAT32. if its still fat32 then yast2 can resize your partition. Or else wait for SuSE 9.0 according to this story at the reg http://theregister.co.uk/content/61/33132.html suse 9 will resize ntfs partitions.
