We just reopened for traffic from these IPs, and now the flood of connection attempts are back. Since a lot of people told me that we could not block these IPs, would these people please stand up and tell me what else we can do, when T-Online is not listening?
Could you tell me, *when* this IPs were blocked? My first e-mail was about 09:00 GMT today and I used the server of T-Online?
They were blocked from the minute I send the mail (Mon Jun 11 2001 - 18:10:38 PDT) up until we opened again some minutes ago. And the abuse immediately started again.
What you could do? See my other mail. Every T-Online customer who joined this mailing list complains (in German!). Maybe T-Online does something.
Thanks! I think customer complains is the way to go. -- Mads Martin Joergensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort." -- A. P. J.
Hello, everyone.
Does anyone know if t-online are in any way associated with t-dialin.net ?
We have had mega problems recently with s'kiddies trying to store warez on
our ftp server and 80% of them have t-dialin IPs. We are seriously
considering blocking their entire range of IPs from our routers in order to
stem the flow of traffic. This may impact the innocent, but the responsible
parties at t-dialin seem uninterested in taking measures to prevent the
abuse. Maybe if their clients started complaining to them about areas of
the internet that are off limits to them (internet black holes ?),
t-whatever might start listening to the rest of us.
Bye for now,
Stuart.

And I thought it only happened on @Home and RoadRunner networks...Sad... You could call T-Online or write a letter if they ignore your pleas for action. Maybe threaten to send your logs to the appropriate authorities...I know its the FBI in the US (no action will be taken, but they can store the logs...) Whats the main contact number? Someone somewhere must have the authority to act, unless it was the "authority" who told them to ignore any of these requests... Just trying to think of stuff...Does Marc Heuse have any input Mads? Its seems like a security issue too... Matt -- "The only thing complex about Linux are the users themselves." On Tue, 12 Jun 2001, Stuart Powell wrote:

Yep. Dynamically assigned IPs of T-Online customers (and AFAIK also of T-Online subcontractor customers) have t-dialin.net name server entries: [sttr]/home/sttr> ifconfig | grep -A1 ppp ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol inet addr:62.226.23.8 P-t-P:62.225.255.137 Mask:255.255.255.255 [sttr]/home/sttr> host 62.226.23.8 8.23.226.62.in-addr.arpa. domain name pointer p3EE21708.dip.t-dialin.net. Hi, I've just ordered the 7.2 upgrade, will this install on a clean system or will it require 7.1 to have been installed first? I'm assuming not as it comes on the same number of disks as 7.2 Pro but I'd like to know. Cheers in advance. Matt

It is the pro edition minus some of the manuals, and a reduction in support Regards Brian

Looks like you are mixing SuSE with Microsoft. Install it anyway you want its the full thing with less printed books and less support days -- Togan Muftuoglu
