[opensuse] [Fwd: Re: [Samba] Printing XP -> 3.2 Now really slow (just like the old days)]
Listmates,
A forward from the samba list regarding printing from XP to samba for all that
have upgraded to samba-3.2.1-0.1.126.
There is an XP->samba/cups Print bug in samba-3.2.1-0.1.126. This will be
fixed in 3.2.2. A patch is attached for those that need it now. Also, for those
of you that want to build from source, just apply the patch from the base of
the source tree (patch -p1
Guys,
My wife needed to print something this evening to our normal HP 4 attached to our cups server running samba-3.2.1-0.1.126. Nothing has changed in the last two months going from 3.0.28a to the 3.2.x flavor of samba. However, something has brought printing to its knees.
I pulled out all the old tricks, hacked the registry to delete any entries in HKCU\Printers\DevModes and DevModes2 of the type \\server\printer. Removal of the entries didn't change a thing. I captured an ethereal/wireshark trace and I have that available to anyone if interested.
Have there been any changes in 3.2.x that would effect printing? It does seem to print once every conceivable timer in window times out, but were talking 120-150 seconds. Any Ideas?
There's a bug with a missing reply_printclose() that just got fixed in the tree by Bartosz Antosik that may be causing this. It could cause print jobs to timeout on the Windows side. Patch is attached, and it will be in 3.2.2. Jeremy. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Boy it would seem this would be something of the highest priority since XP is probably still the predominant windows version. Talk about screwing up your very Raison d'être! Any clues as to how long till 3.2.2 gets released and pushed into opensuse? -- ----------JSA--------- Someone stole my tag line, so now I have this rental. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The guys at samba usually will do an update release fixing problems like this within a day or two. Then it is up to Lars who does a great job building the suse rpm. My guess is that we will see a new release within the next few days. Lars, what says the package guru? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. 3.2.2 will be first available from the openSUSE Samba Build Service (BS) project. See http://en.openSUSE.org/Samba about the details of Samba in the BS. We'll also try to get this out as an official update. We'll try. We'll do our best to convince the responsible people to release 3.2.2 instead of 3.2.1 as schedule till yesterday.
