Hi, After downloading the latest version of SuSE (I've been using it since 6.4), I was for the 1:st time missing some of the programs that I usually use. 1) Postgresql server 2) Zope 3) ncftp 4) Scribus I belive that we should add those packages again. For example in the DTP area, we don't have a single program today. If I feel that I am missing programs that should be a part of a distribution of a size like SuSE, I am pretty sure I am not the only one. What do the rest of you think of this matter? I think you should either buy the boxed version that has those programs or install them via the website. There is no argument that Houghi does post a lot, but if you are going to make claims of irrelevant rants, you make yourself look stupid when you post this in reply to a message that is neither a rant or irrelevant. At this point I would like more Houghis on the list than Daniel Radetics. Now we could open that discussion again on web forums, as I believe they are the best place to deal with user support issues, as I am afraid, that is what this list will be mainly full of shortly. Pflodo.

Mailing lists can be highly addiictive. I've been there, and when you're into it, it's difficult to just break away. Having said that, as long as the mails aren't offensive, you should prefer using filtering to telling people to go away

I'm quite often in #opensuse and I've never seen anyone complain about houghi's mails on the list. There's indeed some noise in here but that's not coming from him. AFAICT, at least. Really, Daniel, your mail is displaced. Indeed houghi is replying to almost every single mail on this list but don't blame him for putting much effort and time to help other people. He's also very committed on the opensuse.org wiki. Motivated people who put spend part of their free time into openSUSE is what we need. That's how we grow a community. houghi, I'm sure people appreciate your effort, keep it up. cheers - -- -o) Pascal Bleser http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/ /\\ <pascal.bleser@skynet.be> <guru@unixtech.be> _\_v The more things change, the more they stay insane. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFDSXH5r3NMWliFcXcRAlFYAJ9RgUu7iRAmOXvUjpVKRPkkRKBPjwCdF5+S g4LagwMsEdvnciP5HA3Quc4= =hbDN -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Yes, i know this way but i don't like it because after each kernel upgrade i would have to recompile the nvidia kernel module. I really want to install NVidia drivers via YaST :-)

Due to the fact that the drivers are closed source, that is not really possible, I think.

I just updated the release notes and it reads: ---------------8<---------------8<---------------8<---------------8<--------------- Novell AppArmor This release of SUSE Linux ships with Novell AppArmor. This feature protects your applications from software exploits. AppArmor protection can be enabled via the AppArmor control panel, which is located in YaST under Novell AppArmor. For detailed information about using Novell AppArmor, see /usr/share/doc/packages/subdomain-docs/apparmor-userguide.pdf. ---------------8<---------------8<---------------8<---------------8<--------------- Is it correct that AppArmor isn't currently part of openSUSE? If so, the release notes are incorrect, if not how can I get it? Where can I find more info on it? How does it relate to PAX, ExecShield, SELinux etc.? I went to a LinuxWorld (Utrecht, the Netherlands) seminar from Arjan van de Ven (Red Hat) that discussed the topics above and SUSE was mentioned, so I'm interested in what SUSE provides.

Then it would be nice if you can see in the release notes that it's not applicable for the openSUSE version. No I spent some time trying to find out where to find it whereas the person who writes the release notes knows (I hope) that it's not applicable.

I guess it works as follows: Release Notes are covering SL 10.0 and there are no specialized SL OSS 10.0 Release Notes. I'm not that sure whether it is worth filing a feature request for SL OSS RNs. It is, and the version included with the SuSE 10 retail package is a limited edition, meaning it that it can only be applied to a restricted, pre-defined set of applications. A trivial bit of Web searching would disclose these things.
