I tried an external modem, and it works at full speed. I strongly disagree. Mine is an external modem, serial port, completely standard, no winmodem. It works, the same hardware, under suse 7.3, Suse 8.1, SuSE 8.2, at full speed (around 5.3 K/S), but under suse 9.1, it crawls at around 1 Kbyte per second. At least for me, it appears to be a hardware issue.
