Hi. I just purchased SuSE 9 Professional and found out, that the "User guide" and "Administration guide" are not included in the box. As I can see, the box is identical to that represented here http://www.suse.de/en/private/products/suse_linux/i386/professional.html The distributor's (www.linuxcenter.ru) representative said, that the manuals will be included in the boxes in january - february. Is that true? Nobody has these manuals yet? Alex.

I don't think that is true, I received both manuals in my pack. This is in the UK unless there has been a problem with the Russian distrubution. Richard G. -- Registered Linux User: 256848

I feel like a fool. Here in Russia I had to pay 50$ more to get SuSE (because of customs-tariffs and stuff like that) and have only the CD/DVD set. The only thing I know is that these distros where bought about two weeks ago in Austria. Maybe the guys from linuxcenter threw the heavy books away to make the tariffs less expensive? :-(

Here in the US it comes with manuals as well. Hmmm... perhaps not all Russian distributors have this problem?

:-) We may say, that Russia is a small, very small country on the outscirts of civilisation :-) - there is only one distributor (the other two or three mentioned on suse.com are collaborating with it) and one reseller, but this company deals only with enterprises. You see, I had no choice.

That "small country on the outscirts of civilization" can boast of great technology, many great intelects, and great cities. It's also a part of Europe, so it's an important country. So, I don't think *that* is the problem either :)

All of the manuals are included as PDF files on your CDs as well. You should have gotten the paper manuals with the Pro package, but it would appear someone got to them before you did. Again, the manuals are included as PDF files. Lee -- --- KMail v1.5.4 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

I would get in touch with them again and let them know they've screwed you and that this excuse about the manuals is bulls**t. Every Pro box comes with these manuals..no exceptions. What they've sold you would either be an upgrade version or a castrated pro box..ie they took the manuals out to save on shipping. They should be reported to SUSE if they are an official reseller and if they aren't an official reseller they should be reported because they don't have the right to resell. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===--- #147972 ---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

Even the update version (English) contains printed version of the "Administration guide" (but not the "User Gide"). Moreover, it's clearly labeled "Update". It seems he has got the "Russian" version, see http://www.linuxcenter.ru/?good=416 It contains only 5 CDs + 1 DVD and no printed documentation. -- A.M.

I'm not sure when the books will be available but they are both available via the SuSE help system once you have 9.0 installed. You didn't purchase the upgrade version did you? Don Henson

Yes, I purchased it as a 'SuSE 9.0 Professional' version. I know, that these docs are available in html and pdf format, but having books is always better. PS I just noticed thad there is nothing in the box but the CD/DVD set - no license text, no sticker :-), no SuSE product listinig etc. - all the stuff I once found in my 8.2 pro box.
This is looking like a bootleg version. There are lots of scum selling copies of SUSE on EBAY despite EBAYs policy of prohibiting bootleg sales w/o the permission of SUSE. Some of these EBAY-thieves even do a passable job of copying the boxes and CD labels. PeterB On Tuesday 11 November 2003 04:55 pm, Alex Khroustalev wrote:

Off hand, I'd say you got a pirated copy but that really doesn't make much sense in the Open Source environment. Don Henson

No problem here (Greece). Manuals were included (as well as a sticker). -Stathis.
