Hello: I'd like to know how can I activate rsh to root user. I can write the remote machine in /etc/hosts, /etc/hosts.equiv, and in /root/.rhosts, but I can't use remote command (rsh, rlogin, rcp , rdist ..)if I'm root user, but I can if I'm another user different of root. I'm sorry because my english is horrible. I suppose, this is due to some securety settings in yast. there is no root login via network. (standard) you can "loosen" security with some variables in yast. This restrictions may apply to rlogin or rather r-services as well. make sure to run /sbin/SuSEconfig after changing these vars could be: # # If you want to allow root logins from other machines, set ROOT_LOGIN_REMOTE # to "yes". # ROOT_LOGIN_REMOTE="no" Juergen -- ========================================== __ _ Juergen Braukmann mail: brauki@cityweb.de| -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Tel: 0201-743648 dk4jb@db0qs.#nrw.deu.eu| /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ==========================================_\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>

Normally root isn't allowed to do this sort of things for the obvious security reasons. Login as a normal user using 'rsh' and then do a 'su -'. An even beter solution is to install 'ssh': Secure Shell. You can find ssh on ftp.replay.com for sure and probably elsewhere.
