If a generic HowTo tells me to add a certain line to inetd.conf, as a general rule, should I simply edit the same line into xinetd.conf instead, for SuSE 9.3? Kevin

No, the syntax is quite different. Have a look at the files in /etc/xinetd.conf to get some idea about what it's meant to look like. I think the syntax is relatively self explanatory, but if you need some specific help, just ask

No. xinetd uses a collection of files under /etc/xinetd.d, one per service. The format is not the same as inetd. You can look at some of the existing files there as examples, or "man xinetd.conf". -Ti -- Ti Kan

No; but Yast will create the appropiate entry for you, for both xinet or inetd, depending on which one is in use. Then you can modify it. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDKtwZtTMYHG2NR9URAqbBAJ4wG4MO2o6ayQ8CstBbAhv4yGGm1QCeP1vh wBdUDlIuo4w8hwZUnSitjdw= =XQ66 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
