After installing 9.1 Pro and using it for several hours, everything appeared to work alright. However, after switching the computer off for a while and then switching it back on again, I now find that I don't have access to /dev/null. If I fire up a terminal, I get the following line repeated 4 times before the prompt appears "bash: /dev/null: Permission denied". In addition, I now find that a number of applications complain about no access to /dev/null and simply will not run! Any help with this would be appreciated, thanks. -- Martin Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/m2/

Check if /dev/null has these permissions: crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 1, 3 2003-10-02 22:45 /dev/null If not try to reset the ownership and permissions: chmod 666 /dev/null chown root.root /dev/null - Jostein -- Jostein Berntsen <jbernts@broadpark.no>

What are the permissions set to? On my computer, they are crw-rw-rw-.

I've had some permission and other strange problems on boot with 9.0 pro. They seemed to resolve themselves when I wrote a meaningless file in /etc. It became routine to do that when I went through a rash of that. It makes no sense whatsoever, but it happened. -- Jim Sabatke Hire Me!! - See my resume at http://my.execpc.com/~jsabatke Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup. Hi I have a problem like yours with 9.1pro... Using Yast disappears /dev/lp0... sometimes, or its permissions are changed. Everytime using Yast I need to recreate /dev/lp0 with "mknod" grrr hope it will help Martin
