KDE2's browser, maybe? I've been MS-free for 4 years now and I dread the thought that I may have to install Windows just to get a close to functional browser. I had it installed once in 7.0, but when I went back to 6.4, it always got to installing 10/11 and died. I burned up a lot of internet hours trying to get it, as have others. Have yet to get it installed in 7.0 again....same problem. Someone posted something about getting the tarball instead of using netscape-installer, but I never found it. I think persistence pays off, but I know I'm done trying. May just order the CD. It was nice, but crashed too often to be the browser of choice, anyway. I'm running it on 6.4 ok. I couldn't get the installer to do it right so I downloaded the whole package and installed it from local files. On the web site you have 2 choices, just the installer or the whole package+installer. The later of the 2 worked great for me with 6.4. Installed it in /opt/netscape6... <p> -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh@cfl.rr.com

For all those that want the most reliable way to install Netscape 6 go to: ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.0/unix/linux22/sea/ and download: netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-sea.tar.gz This has everything including Java and is approx 29 MB. I never got the network installer to finish on 6.4 or 7.0 but this installed beautifully. As far as usage goes, it has crashed on a couple of sites I normally don't have a problem with 4.76. However, on the sites that it does work with, it works great, including Java. Greg

I had the same problem, the ftp-server seems to die a lot! I got the tar-ball from: linuxftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.0/unix/linux2.2/sea/ It installs verry well and that's about all positive i can mention about it. It's slow It's buggy Don't try to use a auto-proxy configuration ... But it looks very impressive and maby in some time it will be awsome! Greets, Erland. btw, this message is composed in Netscape-6 mail.

I encountered the same problem and had to try several times before I got it to install
I got the tar-ball from: The really annoying thing is that I only found the full install by accident while I was looking around their help information. It is not well presented as an option to their default install
It's slow I agree
Don't try to use a auto-proxy configuration I found that out from a coworker after wasting a lot of time
But it looks very impressive and maby in some time it will be awsome! What impressed you? What did you like about the new Netscape?

d) IMHO, the new look really sucks! It's too much Windoze-oriented.
What do you think of the new look? Personally I very much agree with Martin's post and feel that the default look is just plain ugly and depressing. Is there anyone else who feels the same way? Also, are there any others who feel that the new Netscape 6 is too much like AOL with too much integrated into it? I haven't yet installed the Linux version of Netscape and have only seen the Windows version here at work. Can anyone tell me if the Linux version has the AOL advertising that tries to persuade the user to sign up with AOL and does it also have Net2Phone integrated? More important, does the Linux version require the user to register with or login to Netscape Netcenter in order to active Netscape 6? How do others feel about this? Damon Register
